Q

How (and when) can I instant message the library?

I would like to ask the librarian a reference question over virtual chat, but I don't know when they are available or how to reach them.

Answer

There are a few ways to virtually 'chat' with the library...

  1. Click on the 'chat' button on the library homepage
  2. Use one of the embedded widgets (like the one to the right)
  3. Through the "Ask Us" link on our mobile site
  4. Add the library to your contacts

Virtual Reference Hours

A reference librarian will generally be available during the hours below. If we are online, there will be a green light in the chat window. If we are not online, the light will be red.

  • Mon-Thurs, 8 AM-10 PM
  • Friday, 8AM -6 PM
  • Saturday, 10 AM-6 PM
  • Sun, 1 PM -10 PM

We will try our best to ensure that we will be online during these hours, but inevitably circumstances will arise that will take us away (staff meetings, fire drills, etc.), so if you need information immediately, try exploring some of the other ways to get help from the library.

Finally, during breaks we will be available for chat and text during our reduced library hours (generally 8 AM-5 PM, weekdays only).
