Answer

E-Books and Databases

As an online student, you have access to thousands of full-text articles, eBooks, eJournals and streaming videos via the JWU Library.

View an A-Z List of our databases;

Or explore our List of Journals.

To gain access from off campus, select the database or e-book you would like to explore, then enter your name and library bar code. Your library bar code is available in ulearn as of the start of each term. To find it, log into ulearn and locate the JWU Library ID on the "My ulearn" page.

Borrowing Books

The JWU Library provides you with three levels of borrowing:

1. Borrow in person from any JWU Library.

To gain access to a JWU library building, please visit that campus' Safety & Security to obtain a temporary access pass.

Be sure to mail any borrowed item back at least 7 days prior to the due date. Overdue fees and lost item fines will be charged as appropriate. An outstanding balance on your library account may result in withholding of your diploma until the balance is cleared.

2. Have a JWU Library item mailed to you.

The library will ship any book to you free of charge. You may search for books via HELIN Library Consortium. We will only ship books that are available from the main library at the Providence Campus.

When you find a book that you’d like to borrow, select the “Request It” button. At the prompt, enter your name and 14-digit library barcode. From the dropdown menu, select "JWU Online Campus" as the pick up location. The item will be mailed to you within 1-2 days and JWU Library will pay for the outgoing postage. The initial lending period for books is 35 days (5 weeks). You can renew the loan online.

Items that are mailed to you must be mailed back to the JWU Library at the Providence Campus. You are responsible for standard shipping costs.

3. Have an item from another library mailed to you

If you need a book or journal article that is not owned by JWU Library, submit an interlibrary loan request. Because some other libraries charge processing fees, JWU Library will only handle interlibrary loan requests with fees less than $10. Once JWU receives the item, it will be mailed to you.

Lending periods on interlibrary loan materials vary but are typically no longer than 2 weeks. Renewals are generally not available.
