Due to the enormous number of textbooks assigned each term for use with the university curriculum, JWU Library does not, as a general rule, purchase textbooks.
Textbooks can be defined as books produced specifically for use by students enrolled in a formal course of study, and often containing excerpted materials as well as learning activities, exercises, quizzes, etc.
With all due consideration for potential budgetary limitations, the following exceptions to the textbook acquisition policy may be made:
-
By special request of faculty, or at the recommendation of collection development librarians (faculty can use this form)
-
If the item to be purchased is associated with a course though not a textbook, but instead, supplementary material otherwise suitable for addition to the collection as support for the scholastic or cultural interests of the university
-
For publications authored by JWU faculty
- For donated textbooks that have met other standards for addition to the collection
Questions about this policy should be addressed to Dr. Rosita E. Hopper, JWU Dean of Libraries
